The Walton County Sheriff’s Office (WCSO) Emergency Management Bureau is bringing their message of disaster preparedness to the public in the following weeks to come. The members of the agency will be meeting with the public at various locations throughout the county to answer basic questions about evacuation procedures and protocol. Topics to be covered include but are not limited to what citizens can do to prepare themselves ahead of time in the event of a disaster, as well as familiarizing the community with the evacuation zones in their neighborhoods, thus the catch phrase “Know Your Zone”.
Meetings have been held at Choctaw Beach Community Center and Publix in Santa Rosa Beach and Watercolor to answer questions and educate on evacuation zones and routes, sheltering pets in case of evacuation, and creation of a disaster preparedness kit.
The following meetings are scheduled to be held in Freeport with more to be scheduled throughout the entire county.
Kelly’s Food Depot in Freeport on July 1st from 1p.m. to 3 p.m.
Dollar General on Hwy 331 on July 2nd from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.
