On June 12, 2013 the Walton County Sheriff’s Office (WCSO), along with the Department of Children and Families, responded to 1420 North 1st Street in DeFuniak Springs in reference to a welfare check of the children in the home. Items conducive with the manufacture of methamphetamine were observed during the visit.
The WCSO Vice/Narcotics Unit responded and a search warrant for the residence was obtained and subsequently executed. A methamphetamine lab was discovered in the residence including an excess of 14 grams of methamphetamine oil, finished methamphetamine powder and marijuana.
Chad R Graham, 32, and Tasha A Pettit, 24, were both arrested and charged with Manufacturing Methamphetamine, Trafficking Methamphetamine in excess of 14 grams, Possession of Marijuana less than 20 grams, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia and Child Neglect.
Both subjects were transported to the Walton County Department of Corrections.
On June 12, 2013 the Walton Correctional Institute (WCI) K-9 team was conducting a training exercise in the area of Fish Or Cut Bait Road in DeFuniak Springs when they discovered a marijuana garden. WCI K-9 and Walton County Sheriff’s Office (WCSO) K-9 team tracked suspects from the marijuana garden to a residence located at 330 Fish Or Cut Bait Road.
Upon further investigation by Walton County Sheriff’s Office Vice/Narcotics Unit, a search warrant was secured for the property and residence, which is the primary residence of Quinn Ray Barton, 63. When the search warrant was executed, two marijuana plants were discovered on the property in conjunction with the 55 marijuana plants discovered by the K-9 teams totaling 57 plants.
There was approximately one pound of dried marijuana ready for ingestion discovered inside the residence, along with other items consistent with the cultivation of marijuana located on the property.
Barton was arrested and charged with Cultivating Marijuana, Possession of Marijuana more than 20 grams and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. Derl Richard Land, 52, of DeFuniak Springs, was also arrested and charged with Cultivating Marijuana.
Both subjects were transported the Walton County Department of corrections where bond will be set at first appearance.
Please be advised the current flag condition is double red. The water is closed in Walton County for the remainder of the day, Monday 6/10. The flag status will be reevaluated by South Walton Fire District in the morning.
To ensure the safety of all our visitors and residents, entering the Gulf of Mexico is prohibited. The beach will remain open but please note that anyone in the Gulf can be ticketed for entering due to these dangerous water conditions that can produce strong rip currents.
On May 31st, investigators with the Walton County Sheriff’s Office (WCSO) arrested Brian Keith Weeks, 48, of DeFuniak Springs, after allegations that Weeks molested a minor. During the investigation, law enforcement gathered several pieces of information, which led to a search warrant being served at 174 Petty Lane. The search warrant allowed investigators to locate and collect numerous items of evidence related to the charges. In addition, several firearms were found in the home. Weeks is a convicted felon and is prohibited from possessing firearms.
Weeks was charged with Lewd and Lascivious Battery, Lewd and Lascivious Molestation and Possession of Firearms by a Convicted Felon. All are second degree felonies. Weeks was transported and booked into the Walton County Department of Corrections. The investigation is still ongoing at this time.
