Deputy Sheriff Thomas G. BlountDeputy Sheriff Thomas G. Blount
End of Watch:  August 16, 1929Cause of Death:  Gunfire
Deputy Blount was shot and killed while conducting a raid on a still in Bear Head with several other deputies. When they arrived at the scene they found the still in operation and several suspects fleeing the area. Deputy Blount was chasing one of the suspects on foot when he was struck in the back by a blast from 12 gauge shotgun. Deputy Blount had served with the Walton County Sheriff's Office for only 2 weeks.

Sheriff Daniel C. AdkinsonSheriff Daniel C. Adkinson
End of Watch:  April 7, 1938Cause of Death:  Gunfire
Sheriff Adkinson was shot and killed as he was talking to a prison guard while standing in front of the guard's home. A county constable shot and killed both men because he believed they were plotting to have him fired. The constable had previously been arrested for operating an illegal still and Sheriff Adkinson and the guard were scheduled to testify at his upcoming trial. Sheriff Adkinson had served with the agency for 1 year.

Sheriff Robert E. GatlinSheriff Robert E. Gatlin
End of Watch:  November 12, 1942Cause of Death:  Gunfire
Sheriff Gatlin was shot and killed while executing a search warrant. Sheriff Gatlin and a deputy went to an establishment with a search warrant to investigate reports of illegal shipments of whiskey. The storekeeper led the Sheriff and the deputy to the back of the store, then attacked them. Sheriff Gatlin drew his weapon but the suspect was able to gain control of the weapon and shoot Sheriff Gatlin. The other deputy was able to take the suspect into custody. Sheriff had served with the Walton County Sheriff's Office for two years.

Sgt. Travis KilgoreSgt. Travis Kilgore
End of Watch:  January 21, 1991Cause of Death:  Heart Attack
Sgt. Kilgore was a dispatcher assigned to the South Walton substation. While headed home after a long day's work, Sgt. Kilgore began to have chest pains. While enroute to the hospital, Sgt. Kilgore suffered a major heart attack and died. He loved people and loved his job. He had retired from the Air Force and worked for a short time in the oil fields before starting to work for the Sheriff's Office. Sgt. Kilgore served with the Walton County Sheriff's Office for over 6 years.

Dispatcher Emory EllisDispatcher Emory Ellis
End of Watch:  November 24, 1993Cause of Death:  Unknown Illness
Mr. Ellis was a dispatcher assigned to the South Walton substation. At some point in late 1993, he came down with some sort of illness and was hospitalized. He never recovered and passed away. Emory was one of those people who liked to make others feel good and be happy. Mr. Ellis served the citizens of Walton County for about 4 years.

Deputy Sheriff Frank DirisoDeputy Sheriff Frank Diriso
End of Watch:  September 17, 1998Cause of Death:  Cancer
Deputy Diriso lost his long battle against cancer. Deputy Diriso began as a dispatcher had moved to road deputy. He also served on the Special Response Team. Frank cared for his fellow deputies. He was a person you could depend on. Deputy Diriso had served with the Walton County Sheriff's Office for almost 10 years.
