Dispatcher - Communications Division
Position Availability:

Duty Description:
Public safety related work requiring the operation of telephone and radio dispatching equipment used in the Communications Center. Dispatchers operate computerized telephone answering equipment and radio equipment for dispatching
public safety personnel to calls for service and relaying information between field personnel and other agencies. Dispatchers handle and process E-911 calls, information calls and complaints. They translate and encode communication signals and codes.
Dispatchers also maintains a record of all assigned units as to locations, availability, and type of equipment, all while monitoring all radio traffic to ensure the safety of public safety personnel.
Minimum Qualtifications:
- Must be at least 19 years of age
- Must be a United States citizen
- Possess a High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma
- Be of good moral character and never have been convicted of any felony, or any misdemeanor involving perjury or false statement, or have received a dishonorable discharge from any of the Armed Forces of the United States. Any person who, after July 1, 1981, pleads guilty or nolo contendere to, or is found guilty of a felony, or of a misdemeanor involving perjury or a false statement, shall not be eligible for employment or appointment as an officer, regardless of suspension of sentence or withholding of adjudication
- Never have received a dishonorable discharge from any of the Armed Forces of the United States
- Have been fingerprinted by the employing agency with prints processed by the FDLE and the FBI
- Must have the ability to successfully pass a polygraph, psychological and/or background examination prior to job offer
- Must have the ability to pass the departmental medical/physical examination subsequent to a job offer
- Must have a basic knowledge of law enforcement methods, procedures, and functions
- Must have the ability to multitask in order to handle ongoing activities
- Experience as a communications operator or related work is preferred. Six (6) months of on-the-job training will be required.

Salary:
$27,500/year *as of October 1, 2005
No state income tax is deducted
