Deputy Sheriff - Patrol Division
Position Availability:

Duty Description:
Generalized law enforcement and public safety work in the protection of life and property, and the execution of orders issued through the jurisdiction of the Sheriff. Deputies may perform varied assignments in road patrol, traffic control and enforcement, bike patrol, agriculture and animal patrol, marine patrol, canine handling, preliminary and follow-up investigation at crime scenes, courthouse security, technical services, and serves writs in criminal proceedings, and assisting in public safety education and community service programs.
Work involves an element of personal danger and high levels of physical, emotional, and mental stress to deal with people in various situations.
Minimum Qualtifications:
- Must be at least 19 years of age
- Must be a United States citizen
- Possess a High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma
- Possess, or be eligible to obtain, a Florida driver’s license and have an acceptable driving record
- Be of good moral character and never have been convicted of any felony, or any misdemeanor involving perjury or false statement, or have received a dishonorable discharge from any of the Armed Forces of the United States. Any person who, after July 1, 1981, pleads guilty or nolo contendere to, or is found guilty of a felony, or of a misdemeanor involving perjury or a false statement, shall not be eligible for employment or appointment as an officer, regardless of suspension of sentence or withholding of adjudication
- Never have received a dishonorable discharge from any of the Armed Forces of the United States
- Have been fingerprinted by the employing agency with prints processed by the FDLE and the FBI
- Must have the ability to successfully complete the Florida Basic Recruit Training Program or be certifiable under the Equivalency for Certification for Out-of-State/Federal Officers and/or previously certified Florida officers
- Must have the ability to successfully achieve a passing score on the State Officer Certification Examination
- Must have the ability to successfully pass a polygraph, psychological and/or background examination prior to job offer
- Must have the ability to pass the departmental medical/physical examination subsequent to a job offer
- Must have a knowledge of law enforcement methods and procedures
- Must have the ability to assess an emergency or criminal situation and respond promptly and appropriately, often without supervision
- Must qualify with a semi-automatic handgun
- Must comply with mandatory retraining for continuing training or education requirements

Salary:
$30,000/year *as of October 1, 2005
